Preston, Idaho - - - Kenneth "Kenny" Roberts
Preston - Kenneth "Kenny" Roberts, 86, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010 at the Franklin County Nursing Home in Preston, Idaho. He was born April 22, 1924 in American Fork, Utah the son of William Roberts and Emily Davies Roberts. He was the 10th of 11 children, Ralph Roberts, Ferl Adams, Marie Holmstead, William Roberts, Reva Poulson, Elizabeth Roberts, Lillian Stewart, Lenard Roberts, Eldon Roberts, and Arlene Roberts.
Kenneth went to American Fork High School where he was active in the marching band playing the trumpet. He participated in many parades. After graduation Kenneth was called to serve his country during WWII. He was a sergeant and spent most of his tour of duty as the company clerk at Fort Lewis, Washington (Yes think Radar O'Reilly!) He served from 1943-1946. When he returned home he started working for Utah Power as a meter reader then as assistant store keeper in the American Fork office.
Kenneth married Lucille Clark, on June 9, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. He served in many callings in the LDS Church, including financial clerk, secretary in the mutual, sports director, and as a home teacher.
Kenneth's job at the power company took his family to Rexburg, and finally settled in Preston - they have been here since about 1955. Kenneth retired in 1981. Kenny and Lucille have three children, a daughter Sharlene Lucille, who died as an infant, Gary K., and Dale Allen. Kenny's family meant everything to him - his whole adult life was focused on supporting his family, making sure they had the things they needed, plus giving them good experiences such as trips and going to many musicals and plays.
Kenny is survived by his wife Lucille, of Preston, and a son Gary K. of Preston. He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Sharlene, and a son Dale, his parents, and all of his siblings.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 North State Street in Preston, with Bishop Tom Madsen conducting. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the American Fork Utah Cemetery at approximately 3-3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
