Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and daughter, Kathy Smout Dursteler passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on September 8, 2009. She was born on September 25, 1947 in Preston. She was the only daughter of Ora and Ted Rasmussen, and the late Felix A. Smout.
Kathy graduated from Preston High School in 1965 eager to begin her married adventure to her best friend and love of her life, Wade Dursteler. Kathy and Wade were married on January 9, 1965. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple on May 29, 1984. Kathy and Wade loved spending time together, either taking trips with the family or going on romantic weekend getaways. Their favorite place to vacation was Disney Land and they took all of the family, including grandchildren many times. Kathy and Wade were blessed with three children and eight grand children. They celebrated their 44th anniversary on this year.
Kathy was an excellent homemaker with a strong work ethic and a determination to accomplish whatever she set her mind to. She liked being out in the community, meeting new friends and associating with people. She worked at O.P. Skaggs and for the Preston Night Rodeo Committee selling rodeo tickets for 17 years. She loved traveling, scrapbooking, and cooking treats for the grandkids. She loved the outdoors and liked to hunt and fish with her family. She still holds the family record for the biggest buck ever taken with a bow. Kathy instilled in her children and grandchildren family pride, and everybody knew family came first. Kathy was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church positions including the Relief Society presidency.
