Karla LaVore Tripp

Our mother, Karla LaVore Paul Tripp was born on April 20, 1922 in Hyrum, Utah to Elmer Bruce Paul and Laurene Genevieve Petersen.  She died at the age of 92 on July 30, 2014 at home, surrounded by her children.  She is survived by five children:  Carolan (Brent) Hunter of Bennington, Idaho; Janet (David) Kanongataa of Camarillo, California; Scott (Judy) Tripp of Richmond, Utah; Margaret (Vern) Bowden of Churchill, Montana; Lisbeth (Martin) Little of Smithfield, Utah; by 40 grandchildren and by 39 great-grandchildren.  She always referred to us as her “splendid posterity”.  She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Peggy (Loren) Tripp Murray and Mikiko Paul.  Mom is preceded in death by her husband, Boyd, and grandchildren:  Stephen Hunter, Ryan Hunter, Julie Hunter, Laura Tripp and Sarah Little.

She graduated from South Cache High School and LDS Seminary in May of 1939, then in 1943 from The Thomas Dee School of Nursing as a registered nurse.  Mom worked in the Cache Valley Hospital in Logan, Utah until joining the Navy during World War II.  She served on Mare Island until she was honorably discharged on August 19, 1946.  She married the love of her life, Boyd B Tripp on June 25, 1947 in the Logan LDS Temple.

Mom loved serving others and giving hugs.  She had many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  In those callings, she touched the lives of both young and old.  Mom and Dad served together in the Louisiana Baton Rouge Mission, the Florida Tallahassee Mission and the Logan LDS Temple.  She always felt service strengthened her testimony and blessed her and Dad.

Mom’s hobbies and interests were her children, growing and giving flowers, sewing clothes for her children and making baby and wedding quilts.  Mom loved to read and learn.  This continued through her whole life even as her eyesight failed.  Mom loved genealogy and often talked of her pioneer heritage and we know that she’s rejoicing with them now.
