Karla Fa Geddes Cattani, 77, passed away February 17, 2013 at the family farm in Banida, ID, from injuries sustained in a snowmobiling accident.
She was born Sept. 14, 1935, in Banida, ID, to W.S. Geddes and Vanona W. Geddes. She married Thomas S. Cattani on June 3, 1957, in the Logan Temple.
She was passionate about life and teaching having taught in Logan and Provo, UT, Oregon, and Preston, ID where she touched the lives of so many of her students. She was a teacher who genuinely cared about the success of her students and wanted them to excel not only in school, but also in life. Her teaching career was punctuated with many awards including Idaho Teacher of the Year. She was an active member of the LDS Church having served in many stake and ward callings. She served church missions with her husband to Istanbul, Turkey, Atlanta, Temple Square and Palmyra, NY after retiring. She was active in the community and directed numerous productions and county events.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas S. Cattani, five sons and two daughters. Stephen (Janet), Eagle Mountain, UT, Kathryn (Fred), Sierra Vista, AZ, David (Julie), Alpine, UT, Diann, Atlanta, GA, Christopher (Nancy), Queens Creek, AZ, Matthew (Tara), Tustin, CA, Brent (Lori), Gilbert, AZ; 24 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Valene Geddes Flemmer, Salt Lake City, UT, Cheryl Geddes Johnson, Provo, UT, Joan Geddes (Mark) Hart; one brother, Lynn S. Geddes (Carolyn), Orem, UT. She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother, James S. Geddes.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 12:00 noon in the Preston South Stake Center, 55 east 100 South in Preston with Bishop Alan Atkinson conducting. A viewing will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston and Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery. Several faculty and friends of Karla Cattani have chosen to purchase a collection of excellent books to donate to the Preston Larsen-Sant Library as a tribute to Karla. A memorial statement will be mounted in each book stating: "In Memory of a woman who loved books and shared this love with many in pursuit of excellence: Karla Fa Geddes Cattani, 1935-2013". Among these volumes will be a copy of "The History of Banida" and "The Oneida Stake Academy: Historical Landmark in LDS Church History and Education". Karla spent years of effort in these pursuits.
