Preston, Idaho - - - Joyce D. Pond
Preston - Joyce Draper Pond, 76, passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Heritage Home in Preston, Idaho. She was born June 7, 1933 in Moroni, Utah the second child of Orlando LeRoy and Reath Ina Brotherson Draper. She was reared and attended grade school and high school in Moroni, Utah. She then attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah.
In 1953-54 she taught second grade one year in the Central School in Preston, Idaho. While in Preston she met and dated William D. Pond of Lewiston, Utah. Joyce married Bill on June 7, 1954 in the Manti Utah Temple. They made their home in Ogden, Utah.
She taught second grade one year in the Bonneville Grade School at Ogden, Utah. The second of February 1956 they moved to Preston, Idaho where they have lived since moving here in 1956. Joyce has served in the Primary, Cub Scouts, MIA, and Relief Society organizations of the LDS Church. In 1984-85 she, with her husband, served a Stake Mission in the Franklin Stake. In 1988-90 they served an 18 month mission in the Philippines Manila Mission. Then in 1995-96 they served a 12 month mission microfilming in the Ohio Columbus Mission.
Joyce is the mother of five children. She was preceded in death by a son Karl and her parents. She is survived by her husband Bill, of Preston; and four children David Pond, of Preston; Dixie (Gary) Carlson, of Preston; Bret (Trudie) Pond, of Honeyville, UT; and Lisa (Jody) McDaniel, of Buhl, Idaho, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, three sisters, Carol Dodge, of Mount Pleasant, UT; Darlene (Bud) Welker, Chula Vista, CA; Voneal Draper, of Provo, UT; and a brother-in-law Guy (Ruth) Swendsen, of Lewiston, UT.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Preston 8th Ward LDS Chapel, 213 South 2nd East in Preston, with Bishop Randy Wakley conducting. A viewing will be held Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Lewiston Cemetery.
