John Daniel Griffeth, 52, departed this life March 29, 2018 near Saint George, Utah. He left peacefully, without warning or pain, while participating in an activity he loved: hiking with family.
Born November 13, 1965 to Lorenzo and Sherlauna Griffeth, John was the third of eight children. From his earliest years John loved being surrounded by family and the more there were, the happier he was. He made sure people around him knew they mattered, it was a gift he gave freely.
John graduated from Preston High School, Ricks College, and Utah State University. A life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served in the Colombia Cali Mission for two years. At the time of his passing, John was serving as bishop of the Fairview 2nd Ward in Fairview, Idaho.
While attending Ricks, John met the love of his life, Michele Bastian, on a blind date arranged by John’s Uncle Melvin. John and Michele were married September 7, 1990 in the Logan Utah Temple.
John loved being with his family and participating in hiking, camping, hunting, four-wheeling, traveling, playing basketball (until that one church game), completing family projects, and laughing with loved ones. He worked in various fields before establishing his own insurance business which he operated for the last eighteen years. He wanted most of all to be an influence for good and to enjoy life. He succeeded at both.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Michele, and their five children: Jessica, Hailey (Seth) Christensen, Abigail, Pratt, and Savannah as well as numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Lorenzo.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Noon in the Preston South Stake Center, 55 East 1st South, Preston, Idaho. Viewings will be held Friday, April 6th from 6-8 PM at the Preston South Stake Center, and Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30 AM also at the stake center. Interment will be in the Franklin Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
