Joan Evelyn Oblad Kingsford passed away March 12, 2018 at the age of 83. She was born October 20, 1934 to Gladys and Basil Oblad in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, step mother Marjorie Oblad, husband Alvin Kingsford and three of her eight children. Katherine at 3, Blaine Daniel at 19, and Kenneth at 59. She was also preceded in death by her sister LaRetta Walton and her brother Basil John Oblad Jr.
She grew up in Salt Lake City. Where she attended West High. Joan loved sports and was very active in them. Her senior year at West High she met a young man from Idaho at a friend’s home. She quickly fell in love with this good-looking redhead. Alvin Kingsford and Joan Evelyn Oblad were married in Salt Lake City on June 26, 1953 and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple a year later.
While raising her family Joan served in many church callings. She especially enjoyed serving in the Relief Society. In 1970 Alvin and Joan created their own business. Here they and many others served the community of Grace, Idaho in welding, repair, irrigation and upholstery. In 2009 Joan decided to serve an LDS mission. She was called back home to Salt Lake City, Utah where she served in the Family History Department. For the past 4 years she has lived in Logan, Utah at Legacy House.
Joan is survived by 2 step sisters Cheryl Sorensen and Diane Oblad and one step brother Steven Oblad. She is also survived by 5 of her 8 children. Sharleen (Creede) Lambard, Seattle; Janette (John, deceased) Monson, Millville; Sharon Kingsford (Daniel Willems), Seattle; Robert (Beverly) Kingsford, Idaho Falls; Karen (Scott) Walker, Albuquerque. She has also been blessed with 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
As her family we would like to thank those who have helped in caring for our mother these past years. Especially Dr. Steven Salisbury and staff, Legacy House staff, Access Home Care and Hospice staff as well as the staff at Maple Springs the last two weeks of her life.
Funeral Services will be Monday, March 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Thatcher/Williams Ward Buidling in Niter, Idaho. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 E., Preston, Idaho and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Grace, Idaho Cemetery.
