Jerry D. Hawkes

Jerry D Hawkes, 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on October 17th, 2024 at the Franklin County Medical Center Skilled Nursing Facility in Preston, Idaho. He was born June 8th, 1933 in Preston, Idaho to Horace Charles Hawkes and Alfonda Doney Hawkes. His early years were centered around the family farm involving his parents and younger sister, Rozann. He graduated from Preston High School in 1951. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the North Central States mission from 1953-55. He married the love of his life, Lorraine Bennett, on November 4th, 1955 in the Logan Utah Temple. They were married nearly 70 years. He attended Utah State University and studied Accounting. 

His was a life dedicated to hard work and service. In addition to running a dairy farm and mink ranch, he was an active member of his church. At one point, he served as first counselor in the bishopric of his ward. He and Lorraine also served a temple mission for 18 months in the Manila Philippines mission, as well as served as officiators at the Logan Utah Temple. 

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Hawkes, of Franklin, Idaho; by his three sons and one daughter; David (Barbara) Hawkes of Franklin, Idaho; Barry (Julie) Hawkes of Franklin, Idaho; Steven (Linda) Hawkes of Henderson, Nevada and Sheila (Mark) Saxton of Harper, Texas. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to the Franklin County Hospital medical staff, hospice nurses and all those in the skilled nursing facility. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26th, at 11:00 am at the Franklin Stake Center, 106 East Main Street, Franklin, Idaho. A viewing will also be held that morning 9:30- 10:30 am at the Franklin Stake Center. Interment will be in the Franklin cemetery.
