Clifton, Idaho - - - - Janet S. Davis
Clifton - Janet Swainston Davis, 89, passed away suddenly but peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 15, 2009. She was born December 27, 1919, to Parley and Janet Speirs Swainston in Preston, Idaho the fourth of five children. She was raised in Preston, graduated as valedictorian of her high school, and attended a year at Utah State University.
She married her life's companion, Lynn M. Davis on December 12, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple. From the beginning, they were one in all life's important decisions. They made their home in Clifton where they loved and honored each other through 66 years together in happy and productive service to a family of five children 21 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. None of their posterity was ever given cause to doubt their unqualified love for them.
Janet was devoted to the LDS Church throughout her life. She served in many church positions including Relief Society President, Primary President, counselor, teacher choir director, genealogy worker, and temple worker. She enjoyed good health to the end so there was never a time in her life when she was not working to the benefit of her family, community, and church. She was the ideal matriarch. She served in various community positions as a voter registrar, in the schools, and in compassionate service to all. Lynn and Janet were pillars in their community, providing countless acts of service to others and receiving countless acts of kindness in return.
She was unusually persistent in improving herself at her hobbies and activities. She was an outstanding homemaker, noted for her cooking, quilting, and many arts and crafts. She loved all things that were virtuous, lovely of good report, and praiseworthy, she sought after them. She stressed education of mind and spirit to her posterity and was a voracious reader. She learned to use the computer and indexed over 30,000 names for the Family Search Indexing project. She loved music, was an accomplished violinist and pianist, formed and participated in singing groups, and was choir director for many years.
Janet is survived by four children, Allen (Paula) Davis, of Corvallis, OR; Rosalie, (Henry) Rawlings, of Las Vegas, NV; Clair (Caroline) Davis, of Clifton, ID; and Lee (Dee Ann) Davis, of Honeyville, UT; 21 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, a sister Evelyn Chase, of Chula Vista, CA.
