OGDEN, UTAH - - JAMES T. WESTMORELAND

OGDEN- James Tanner Westmoreland, 69, passed away on Feb. 14, 2009, at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. He was born Dec. 11, 1939, in Tremonton, Utah, the son of Broadas Young and Blanche Edna Meeks Westmoreland. He married Janet Mathis on Aug. 12, 1958, in Pocatello, Idaho. They were later divorced. He married Georgia Maxine Barfus on Nov. 2, 1969, in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Utah Temple.
James was a hard worker with a big heart. He helped many less fortunate then he find work and maintain stable lifestyles. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served in many callings including in the branch presidency of the Ogden Regional Medical Center branch. He also served in the high priest group leadership, the Stake Sunday School presidency, the Boy Scouts, and many others.
He loved to work. It's where he felt at peace and where he felt he could do the most good for those around him. He was always there for others and was known for the service that he provided for others. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Ogden; two sons and four daughters, James W. Mathis of Tremonton, Utah; Iris Elaine (Kent) Kitada of North Ogden, Utah; Reva Monette Cutler of Brigham City, Utah; Jolene Summers of Brigham City, Utah; Rick T. Westmoreland of South Ogden, Utah; Charlotte Rebecca Wise of Knoxville, Tennessee. He is also survived by his grandchildren and siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren, and seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at noon in the Washington Terrace 10th Ward Chapel, 125 East 5350 South, Ogden, Utah, with Bishop Rick Wade conducting. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the church and Thursday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. also at the church. Interment will be in the Preston, Idaho Cemetery.
