James Myron Fonnesbeck

Weston, Idaho - - - James Myron Fonnesbeck
Weston - J. Myron (Mike) Fonnesbeck, 87, passed quietly in his sleep in St. George, Utah January 17, 2010. Mike fell and broke his hip and femur the week before Thanksgiving 2009 and since that time struggled to get his health back. Mike was born in Cedarville, Idaho July 18, 1922 to James Martinus and Rosa Zbinden Fonnesbeck.
Mike spent his youth in Weston on the farm with his six sisters and three brothers. He was the oldest son, but had 5 older sisters. He attended Weston High school where he played ball and was a member the Weston High State Championship Basketball Team. After high school he enlisted in the Marine Corps during WWII and served mostly in California where he survived, but always remembered and honored the friends from Weston who gave their lives during the war. Mike married Loneta Hollingsworth and after the war returned to Weston where he worked on the farm with his father. In 1956 he and his brother Norman took over the farm from their father James and worked it together for many years. In 1963 he accepted a position with the ASCS in Franklin County Idaho and served as a manager and director until he retired in 1985. Mike and Loneta along with many friends from Weston and Cache Valley trailered and traveled throughout the west and Canada for the almost twenty years. It was a wonderful time and they had many great experiences and memories from their travel. Mike served in the LDS Church in many positions, including teacher and a member of the Bishopric, but his most cherished calling was that of Scoutmaster and always talked about his troop of Eagle Scouts.
Mike will be remembered as a man of honor, a man of great friendship, hard work, high energy, and always willing to help and be there for you when you needed someone. But, of all his traits Mike will be remembered for his sense of humor and endless well of tall tales and "grandpa stories".
He leaves behind his wife of 67 years Loneta Hollingsworth, three sons M. Bruce Fonnesbeck of Farmington, UT; Rodney D. Fonnesbeck, of Pocatello, ID; James B. Fonnesbeck, of St. George, UT; Fonnesbeck, sisters Oda (Ellis) Rasmussen, of Orem, UT; Marjean (Terry) Lunt, of Gilbert, AZ; brother Paul (Yvonne) Fonnesbeck, North Logan, UT; and sister-in- law Elizabeth Hollingsworth of Denver Colorado. He has 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Mike is preceded in death by four sisters, Gladys Jenkins, Carmen Campbell, Wanda Hancey, and Jenny Duce, two brothers Gordon and Norman Fonnesbeck and one son Hollis H. Fonnesbeck, and a daughter-in-law Linda Seamons Fonnesbeck.
Funeral services will be in the Weston 1st Ward Chapel on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 12 noon with Bishop Blaine Buttars conducting. A viewing will be held on Friday evening the 22nd from 6:00-8:00 PM at Webb Funeral Home's new location 1005 South 8th East in Preston and Saturday from 10:30-11:30 AM at the church.
