Jacqueline Alder

Jacqueline Alder, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully the morning of February 16, 2025, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Bountiful, Utah on July 21, 1933, to a modest family. She married Richard S. Alder (deceased) in 1959, and they had four children together. Jackie is survived by her four children Richard Brett Alder, Wendy Lynne Alder, Kip Darrin Alder (Cindy), and Jodi Diana Alder Jones (James). She is also survived by her 14 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and two surviving siblings, Sue Bruerton and Paul Smedley, and one deceased brother, Max Smedley.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and wisdom, a sharp wit, and a keen sense of adventure. She freely offered her time and resources to those she loved and never was there a better person with whom to share your secrets, or with whom to find moments of joy and humor, even in the saddest or most mundane moments of life. She was a graduate of University of Utah, and after moving to California, became an elementary school teacher, the Primary President, and the office manager for the family business in Oakland, CA, Alder's Wide Shoes. Some of her passions included cooking, sewing, reading, travel, and she was notorious for her endless collection of jewelry, but few know she was secretly a lover of science. She long harbored a wish to work as a lab researcher and dreamed of curing disease in the world. Yet above all, her main focus in life was her relationships with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, which brought her the most joy.

The loss of her infectious laugh, her bright energetic personality, her compassion, and her zest for life will leave a void in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have her in their lives. She was known for having a rebellious streak and being unapologetically herself, which famously manifested in her habit of sporting purple highlights in her hair, and was always a natural beauty itnside and out, even until her last days. Our mother was the kindest soul and loved unconditionally, without judgement or bias. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all that knew and loved her sweet spirit.
