Mapleton - J. Reed Long passed away June 15, 2013 at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston from pneumonia. He was born October 22, 1925 in Cub River, Idaho to Rufus Cleveland and Lettie Baird Perkins Long. He met his sweetheart Carma C. Wanner at a dance in Cub River and married her in the Logan LDS Temple on June 26, 1944.

Reed was an accomplished mechanic and also farmed and worked at Monsanto. He worked on the North Slope Pipeline in Alaska and at the sugar factory in Whitney. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in various callings including the Bishopric, Elders Quorum presidency, Sunday School and Scouting. He also flew in an air club in Preston. In his later years he enjoyed spending his winters in San Carlos, Mexico.

He is survived by his wife Carma, of Mapleton, ID; his children David R. (Janet) Long, of Preston, ID; Michael W. (Fernetta) Long, of Mt. View, CA; Bryan Long, of Preston; Debi (Steve) Young, of Laveen, AZ; and Norita (Dave) Stricker, of Eagle, ID; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Verl P. Long, of St. Anthony, ID; Myrle Pierce, of Salt Lake City, UT; and Rayma (Lafe) Jepsen, of Preston; and a brother-in-law Forest Odekirk, of Farr West, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, and five siblings, Wendell Long, Thora Snarr, Leola Ash, Bryce Long, and Venda Odekirk.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 12:00 noon in the Mapleton LDS Chapel with Bishop Burbank conducting. A viewing will be held on Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston and Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Mapleton Cemetery.
