Preston, Idaho - - - I. Marie Corbridge
Preston - Ila Marie Sparrow Corbridge, 92, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Heritage Home, in Preston, Idaho. She was born on November 13, 1918 in Logan, Utah to Hyrum Thomas and Martha Johanna Larsen Sparrow. When she was four months old, her father and sister died with the flu. Her mother moved the family of six children to Smithfield, Utah to be close to her mother to help her. She married Glenn Taylor Corbridge on September 23, 1936 in the Logan LDS Temple. They moved to Preston and she has lived there ever since.
When Marie was five years old, her mother married Frank L. West. He had lost his wife to the flu. He brought four children to the family and they also had a son together. Marie went to Summit School, Junior High and North Cache. She has always been a very hard worker. She worked for years at the Maytag Store, Cache Valley Cheese, and for 20 years at the Franklin County Hospital in housekeeping. She skinned mink every year to help buy their Christmas presents. Marie also worked with the Lady Elks for 40 years where she helped launder the tablecloths after every banquet.
She belonged to the Nifty Needles sewing club for many years. Marie loved to quilt and embroider. She made a tradition of giving all the children a quilt when they turned twelve and also when they got married. The grandchildren have also received many of these homemade quilts and pillowcases. Marie was an active member of the LDS church and served in many callings throughout her life and was also a temple worker in the Logan Temple. Marie loved to garden, and is well known for her roses and raspberries.
She is survived by four children, Glenda (Dee) Hebdon, of Preston; Rhonda (Stephen) Bowen, of Afton, WY; Brent (Cindy) Corbridge of Weston, ID; Darrell (Sandy) Corbridge, of Hyrum, UT; and a son-in-law Jim Garrett, of Preston; 19 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, daughters Tamera Corbridge and Carol Garrett, and another son Robert, one grandchild, one great grandchild, six brothers Royal Sparrow, Lloyd Sparrow, Duane Sparrow, Eldon West, Lewis West, and Leon West; four sisters Cora Hogan, Demoine Bosworth, Ruth Gregory, and Evelyn Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston South Stake Center, 55 East 1st South in Preston, with Bishop Mark Beckstead conducting. A viewing will be held Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home's new location, 1005 South 800 East in Preston and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.
