Ida Lewis Howell

Our dear Mother and Grandmother, Ida Lewis Howell, at the wonderful age of 104, passed away on April 10, 2013 in Mesa, Arizona.

Ida was born July 11, 1908 to Ezra and Sarah Ann Blake Lewis in Preston, Idaho. Ida was blessed with 2 brothers; Gerald and Fred and 5 sisters;
Emily Wollaston, Louise Nutter, Ellen Swaintson, Iris Schow and Myrtle Russell,

Ida was a fun, energetic person who loved being outside. She loved seeing things
Grow. She especially loved her garden and the produce that was taken in to can.
She knew how to make people welcome in her home with home cooked meals, fresh baked bread and homemade jelly. Oh, how she loved to drive, whether it was a horse drawn buggy, a tractor or a car.

Ida was a woman of service, and in 1931 received a mission call to serve as a missionary in the Northwestern States mission. While on her mission, during a temple excursion to the Cardston, Alberta Temple, she met Elder Howell. When they were released from their missions their friendship grew into love and Ida married Thomas Edmund Howell in the Salt Lake Temple on June 19, 1935. They made their first home in Portage, Utah and later moved to Preston.

Ida was a woman who didn't waste a minute from sun -up to sun-down. Her hands, were never idle whether she was quilting, knitting, making temple aprons. She, however, found the most joy in her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ida has a strong testimony of her Savior and served in many church positions but her greatest joy came in Temple Attendance. For six years, at the age of 86, she attended the Mesa Arizona Temple once a week.

Ida and Ed have one daughter, Ann H. Forsgren (Douglas) of Gilbert, Arizona.
They have 8 grandchildren, Shawn Douglas (Jennifer) Kristin Kempton (Robert), Candice Gonzales (Josh), Brian Thomas (Shelene), Darin Calvin ( Stephanie), Scott Eli, Sarah Ann Aholelei (Vaitaki) and Kevin Orlando (Cassie). Ida has 28 great grand children. Many nieces and nephews remember Aunt Ida with fond memories and she loves them dearly.

Ida was preceeded in death by her husband, Thomas Edmund Howell in 1989 and grandson, Scott Eli in 1985.
