Dayton, Idaho - - - Herbert N. Williams
Dayton - Hebert Niels Williams passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the Heritage Assisted Living Home in Preston, ID. He was 93 years old. He was born in Cedarville (Weston) Idaho on November 6, 1918 the son of Rolland Burbank and Anne Sophia Williams. His siblings are Gladys Buttars, LaVon, Ruby Dunkley, Vera Bowden, and Rhea Taylor, all are deceased except Rhea from Dillon, Montana.
Herb attended a one room school in Cedarville for grades 1-4, Weston Elementary for the 5th grade, back to the 'new school' by Dick Lemmon's house for grades 6 and 7, and back to Weston again for the 8th grade. He graduated from Weston High School. Herb and his sisters often rode a horse to high school and other community events. he attended Utah State Agricultural College in Logan where he took auto mechanics, welding, wood working, machine shop and mechanical drawing. Herb served a mission to Denmark, until the war broke out. He finished his mission in the United States in Mississippi.
When he returned home from his mission, he married the lovely Agnes Fae Buttars of Dayton on March 25, 1942 in the Logan LDS Temple. They would have been married 70 years this coming March. Herb and Fae were known to always hold hands as they sat next to each other. They each had a sense of humor and loved to pull tricks on each other. They were the life of the party at every gathering. A favorite tradition of his six daughters and their daughters, was to receive a Grandpa kiss on their forehead each time they entered his home.
Herbert farmed and raised his family in Cedarville (Weston Creek) until they moved to their present home in Dayton in 1994. He dearly loved the wonderful people in his ward and community. Through theyears he worked for Palmer Motor in Preston, the Sugar Factory in Lewiston, and Logan Manufacturing (Thiokol) in Logan for 20 years as a welder and mechanical technician in Research and Development. After retiring, Herb worked as a Senior Citizen Sight Manager. He owned and operated a backhoe business until he officially retired at the age of 84.
Herb served as the President of the Franklin Stake Mission, as a councilor in the Weston Ward Bishopric, and has served many years as a Sunday School Teacher. He was a Primary teacher, Scout Leader, and Sunday School Superintendent. At the age of 85 he was called as the Deacon Advisor in the Dayton Ward. He dearly loved all the boys he taught and they respected and loved him. He most recently served as the building coordinator for the Dayton Ward. He has been a faithful home teacher all his life. Herbert's most cherished years were when he served as on officiator at the Logan temple. Herb and Fae served two missions together after their children were raised. Their first mission was to the Mississippi Jackson Mission, their second was to the Texas Dallas mission.
He loves his 11 children and claims their partners as his own. He is survived by his wife Agnes Fae, their children are: Montie (Juanita) of Saratoga Springs, UT; Deonna (Neil) Fuller, of Clifton, ID; Jim (deceased) Yvonne, of Ephraim, UT; Janet (Bob) Tustian, of Edmonton, Canada; Susan (Wayne) Martin, currently serving in the Mongolian Mission, Jay (Rosie), of Cornish, UT; Mark, of Dayton, ID; Steven (Renee) of Orem, UT; Louise (Brent) Osborne, of Preston, ID; Jeannie (Mark) Larson, of Layton, UT; Laurie (Corky) Smart, of Millville, UT; 66 grandchildren, 132 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. His total family that honors his name is 248.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 12:00 noon in the Dayton, Idaho LDS chapel with Bishop Troy Moser conducting. A viewing will be held Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, in Preston and Monday from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the church in Dayton. Interment will be in the Weston Cemetery.
