Helen C. Merrill, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, 5 December 2017, and will truly be home for Christmas. Helen was born 1 March 1916 to Laura Monk and Samuel Christensen in Benson, Utah. She grew up in Richmond, Utah, graduated from North Cache High School, and attended LDS Business College. On 23 November 1938 Helen married Kelton Oran Merrill. After living briefly in Texas and California, they resided in Preston, Idaho, where she continued to live until the last 10 years of her life, which were spent in Wellsville, Utah.
Helen is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many church callings and organizations, but her favorite callings were in Primary. She also enjoyed going to the Logan Temple each week.
She loves her Savior, Jesus Christ, her family, gardening, flowers, eagles and cardinals, traveling with family, and adventure. In her nineties you could find her dog sledding in Alaska, swimming with the dolphins in Hawaii, and para-sailing in her neighbor’s field! Helen is also well known and appreciated for her amazing Christmas cookies (shared with all) and her delicious pies.
Helen is survived by three daughters, Kathy Merrill, Annette Merrill Weber, & Karren (Brett) Fitzgerald, a son, David Lee (Roberta) Merrill, a daughter-in-law, Linda W. Merrill, and 52 grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kelton, her brother, Vern S. Christensen, her sister, Frances C. Jensen, a son, Leslie K. Merrill, and many other family members.
A viewing in Helen’s honor will be held Thursday, December 14, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home in Preston, Idaho. An additional viewing will be held Friday, December 15, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Wellsville Stake Center 30 South Main St in Wellsville, Utah, followed by the funeral at 12:00 noon, also at the Wellsville Stake Center. Interment will be at the Wellsville City Cemetery.
The family expresses deep gratitude to the many family members, friends, hospice personnel, and staff and residents at Beehive Home who have served Helen with so much love and kindness. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
