PRESTON, IDAHO Hazel Ardell Nielsen
On November 5, 1919, in Logan,Utah, Ardell Nielsen was born the fourth child of Alexander Morgan and Hazel Hendricks Nelson at their home. She returned to a glorious reunion with her family in heaven on January 2, 2010. She grew up in a family of six boys and two girls. When she was 8 her sister died and her mother died when she was 12.
She attended Wilson Elementary, Logan Junior High and graduated from Logan High School and LDS Seminary. She attended Utah State University.
She married V Keith Nielsen on July 25, 1947 in Logan Utah. Their marriage was solemnized on February 8, 1950 in the Logan LDS Temple. After their marriage they lived in northern Idaho and eastern Washington for a short time. They moved back to Cache Valley where their first daughter was born. In 1950 they moved to their home in Preston where their 4 other children were born. She resided in her home until the time of her death.
Dad died August 23, 2001 after a long illness. Mother cared for him for 30 years after he had his stroke. Her legacy was one of caring for others. She helped raise her 6 brothers, raised a nephew for several years, cared for her father in his later years and helped raise her many grandkids.
She loved to camp, fish and especially loved to play golf. She played golf well into her 80's. She served as President of the Ladies Golf Association, the state and local PTA, Pink Ladies and worked with the Boys scouts.
She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in the Primary and Young Women's organization. She worked at the American Food Store, Del Monte, Artic Circle, for Dr. Hale and at Pepperidge Farms.
She is survived by her five children, Sandy (Ty) Lewis, Pam (Phillip) Zetterquist, Greg (LuAnn) Nielsen, Rick (Margie) Nielsen, and Mike (Becky) Nielsen, 21 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 on the way, two brothers William Don Nelson of Ogden and Robert M Nelson of Logan. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, and 4 brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at noon in the Preston North Stake Center, 310 N. State, with Brother Terry Smith conducting. Friends may call Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and Wednesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Preston City Cemetery. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the care givers. at the Franklin County Medical Center and the Franklin County Transitional Care Unit for the wonderful care and love shown to our mother.
