Whitney, Idaho - - - Don Petersen
Whitney - Harris Devon "Don" Petersen, our loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston, Idaho. Don was born on December 18, 1924 in Hyrum, Utah to Harris Henry and Veda Hansen Petersen. His love of country inspired him to serve as Seaman First Class in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Don married his sweetheart, Colleen Brown and they raised a family of seven beautiful children.
Don worked for many years in construction and was excellent at operating a backhoe. However, his real love was found in ranching, which he did throughout his life, beginning in his early years helping his father raise hundreds of sheep in Blacksmith Fork Canyon, up to his retirement after working many years for Glen Keller managing 400 head of cattle at Promontory, Avon, and Franklin Basin. A rancher he was, from the olden days; now there's not many left to show us their ways. That old cowboy hat all crooked and stained; beloved as a sign of a heart unrestrained. We'll miss seeing it down that long dusty road. Off to heaven his spirit to a peaceful dwell.
Don is surived by his wife Colleen, his children Mickie (Shayne) Mathews, Kirk (Marsha) Petersen; Randy (Leisa) Petersen; Pam Biggs; Kevin (Tonya) Petersen; Kris (Becky) Petersen; Cleone (Lyle) Gittins; 23, grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and his sisters Theone Larsen, and Sonia (Tom) Hendry.
