Preston - Gwen Hulse Wheeler Cottle Fish passed away April 4, 2010 at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston, Idaho. She was born Sept. 1, 1928, one of three daughters to the late Ephraim LeRoy and Edna Clausen Hulse in Dayton, Idaho. She attended grade school in Dayton and graduated from Westside High in 1947.
Gwen married Washington Fay Wheeler on Sept. 5, 1947, in Elko, Nev. Together, she and Fay had two sons and two daughters. Gwen said her favorite memory came on March 17, 1966, when she dressed her four children in white, and together, with her husband, had her family sealed to each other for time an eternity in the Logan LDS temple. Gwen's beloved husband Fay, passed away April 29, 1979.
She later married James Henry Cottle in the Logan LDS temple on August 28, 1979. Gwen and Jim spent 17 years together before his death on May 11, 1997. She then married Billy Robert Fish on May 16, 2000, in the Logan LDS Temple. Gwen and the late Mr. Bill spent 10 years together. Gwen loved and cherished all three of her husbands as well as their families very much.
After working in the Franklin CafAC. for 3 years, Gwen spent 9 years at the Snooty Cat CafAC. waitressing and cooking. She later went to LPN Nursing School and then spent 10 years working at the Franklin County Medical Center's nursing home and hospital. In addition, Gwen worked for 5 years before retiring from the Deseret Industries.
Gwen was proud to be a Golden Gleaner and a member of the Daughter of the Utah Pioneers. She dedicated herself to service with more than 60 years as a visiting teacher. She enjoyed Sunday School and temple work. Gwen loved the Gospel and strived to live a good life. She spent more than 10 years later in her life helping to make arrangements for the Franklin County Senior Citizens bus, to take locals to the Logan LDS Temple every Tuesday and Thursday.
She is survived by her devoted children, Brent H. Wheeler (Nancy) of American Falls, Idaho; Roland H. Wheeler of Boise, Idaho; FayeLynn Owen (T. Mark) of Preston, Idaho; and Edna Sparrow (Billy) of Rexberg, Idaho. Her five step-children, Dolores Taylor of Logan, Utah; Wilson Wheeler of Anderson, Calif.; Beverly Crowell of Palo Alto, Calif; Scott Fish (Alleen) of Malad, Idaho; and Dixie Gregory (Max) of Lewiston, Utah. In addition, she is survived by her two sisters, Venda Beckstead of Evanston, Wyo.; and Phillis (Phil) Rasmussen of Ogden, Utah. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and her 36 great step-grandchildren along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2010, at 12:00 noon in the Whitney 2nd Ward Chapel with Bishop Brandon Stephenson conducting. A viewing will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010, from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home's new facility, 1005 South 800 East, in Preston and Thursday, April 8, 2010, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Dayton Idaho Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com.
