LEWISTON, UTAH GUY SWENDSEN

LEWISTON- Guy Burrett Swendsen, 99, passed away on Aug. 17, 2012, at the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Logan, from causes incident to age.
He was born June 13, 1913, in Richmond, Utah, a son of Burrett Peel and Andromeda Detton Swendsen. When Guy was young, his father operated the Webster Junction Train Station. His mother continued to run the train station after his father died when Guy was five years old. They continued to live there until his mother re-married. He lived in Lewiston for most of his life, graduating from North Cache High School. During this time, he loved boxing and shooting ground squirrels on the family farm.

He married Birdie Hurst in 1936. From this union came two daughters, Bonnie and Lynne. They were later divorced. In 1951, he married Cornelia Ruth Bruderer. She brought two boys into the marriage- Bill and Lorin. To this union was born another son, Calvin.
Living through the depression taught him many of the skills he would use in his later life. Most of his life was spent being self-employed in various businesses such as a sand and gravel business, a garage in Lewiston and a poultry processing business. Guy was a charter member of the Lewiston Jaycees. Much later in life, he went back to his roots in running the family farm and raising cattle.

The family always worked together in the businesses and yet always found the time to go hunting and fishing together when the opportunity arose. He especially enjoyed the huge family reunions and the time spent with his extended families. The family took time to train and race sled dogs. He was a charter member of the Kanganark Dog Sledding Club.
Guy was a faithful member of the LDS Church and his favorite assignments were Elders Quorum Presidency and High Priest Group secretary. He was an avid home teacher until his health wouldn't let him get around. He held a special bond with the young men of his ward before they left on their missions. He wanted them to know of his deeply held testimony.

He was preceded in death by two children, by two sisters, Beatrice Bell and Eleanor Clay Bach; by a granddaughter, Jodi Lynne LaRose and by a daughter-in-law, Jana Hess Hicks. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Cornelia Ruth; by a brother, William D. Pond of Preston; two daughters, Bonnie (Will) Smith of Columbia Falls, Montana and Lynne (Larry) Dynes of Las Vegas, Nevada; by three sons, Bill Hicks of Logan, Utah; Lorin (Kathy) Lane of Fairview, Idaho; and Calvin (Janice) Swendsen of Richmond, Utah. Guy and Ruth are blessed with 25 grandchildren, 80 great grandchildren and 27 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at Noon in the Lewiston Third Ward Chapel, 16 S. Main St., Lewiston. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the church in Lewiston and Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. also at the church. Interment will be in the Lewiston Cemetery.
