Guy Ebanez

Guy Ebanez, 51, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 after a courageous 8 year battle with ALS/Lou Gehrig’s Disease.  He was born January 9, 1967 in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Thomas and Mercedes Ebanez.

Guy enjoyed a happy upbringing in Hawaii; then at 19 years old came to the mainland to play football at Grossmont Jr. College in California. After being recruited by ISU to play football, and a strong desire to see snow for the first time, he came to Pocatello in 1988. This is where he met his sweetheart Rachelle (Sparkle) Naylor, and they were married in May of 1992. They were sealed as an eternal family to their 2 sons and daughter in 2009.

Guy came to Preston, Idaho in 1994 to work as a Juvenile Probation Officer for Franklin County where he loved his job and adored the people he worked with. Guy had a unique and special ability to connect with his probationers and helped change many lives. His passion for sports continued on after college and was manifest through his many years of coaching little league football and baseball; and later on as an assistant coach for the West Side High School football team from 2009-2014. Guy had a deep love for the boys he coached. He believed WS football was successful, not because they were the biggest or the strongest, but because they had an unparalleled work effort, and “and were All Heart.”

After 19 years of dedicated service to Franklin County Probation, he retired and spent the majority of his time making memories with his family, cheering on his kids from the sidelines, and enjoying his new grandson.

ALS is an unforgiving disease and Guy survived as long as he did because of the love and support of this community. Even though his island roots run deep he came to believe that this community was truly his ‘Ohana’ (home).

Guy is survived by his mother Mercedes Ebanez, his wife Sparkle Ebanez, sons Josh (Jayna), Jantz (Raven), and daughter Lilia M. Ebanez. He is also survived by his sisters: Heidi Cook (Kimo), Laura Aina (Vince)  Brothers: Thomas Ebanez Jr (Lisa), John Ebanez (Darcy)He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Ebanez, Father-in-law Bruce Naylor, and sister Pearline Isom.

The Ebanez family wishes to thank Franklin County Probation, Law enforcement , family, friends, and ward members for their concern and countless acts of service. Our hearts will forever be thankful to Dr. Beckstead, Franklin County Home Health & Hospice, and especially Cheri Rindlisbaker, Dianne Henderson, and Megan Empey for their compassionate care of our Guy.

Mahalo and many Alohas.
