POCATELLO, IDAHO - - GREG MERRILL
POCATELLO- Greg Austin Merrill, 62, passed away on Feb. 27, 2011, at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was born Sept. 30, 1949, in Preston, Idaho, the son of Clarence Perry and Velda Johnson Merrill.
He grew up in the "Johnsonville" area near Preston, Idaho and always spoke fondly of his memories there. He attended Ricks College on a wrestling scholarship and continued his education at Boise State University and Idaho State University.
He enjoyed racing cars, motorcycles, snowmobiling, boating, water skiing, rock hunting and lapidary, repairing cars, welding, scuba diving, boxing and wrestling. He had a great love for his cats. He took good care of his home and garden in Pocatello.
He earned numerous awards and achievements in business and sales in the Telecommunication and Auto industries with ECSI Idaho Falls, Cambridge Telephone Company and Taylor Chevrolet in Rexburg, Idaho. He also owned his own business in Preston-The Car Lot.
Greg lived the last decade of his life as a paraplegic with some greatly appreciated, yet seldom recognized help from neighbors, caregivers and family members.
He was very proud of his surviving children, Jason Merrill of California; Melissa Jacks of Nevada; Darrick Merrill of California; ShaLayne (Nick) Hill of Idaho. He was also very proud of his many grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Velda Merrill of Preston, Idaho; three brothers and three sisters, Brad (Jane) Merrill of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Christy Mendoza of Richmond, Utah; LouAnn (Larry) Stokes of Preston; Todd (Connie) Merrill of Preston; Rick Merrill of Boise, Idaho and Sherri (Guy) Adams of Clearfield, Utah. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence, by a sister, Penny Fisher, and by two infant brothers and one infant sister.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at 3:30 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home's new facility, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho.
