Gordon A Gailey

CLIFTON, IDAHO - - GORDON GAILEY
Gordon A Gailey, age 88, died at his home in Clifton, Idaho, on September 1, 2012, of natural causes.
Born November 5, 1923, to Vaughn and Gladys (Anderson) Gailey, he graduated from Clifton High School in 1942. Gordon served in the United States Army and was a combat veteran of World War II (European theater), receiving numerous military awards including a Purple Heart (with clusters) and a Bronze Star. He was truly one of the "greatest generation." On July 12, 1946, he married Margaret June Bergquist in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple.
Other than his time spent in military service, Gordon lived his entire life in Clifton and worked for many years as Water Master and General Manager of Twin Lakes Canal Company. Gordon's careful stewardship of the water resources of Franklin County was admired and appreciated at the time and warmly remembered to this day. In his later years, he worked for Franklin County Grain Growers to yet again support agriculture in his community. After retirement, Gordon kept busy advising and aiding his sons' dairy installation business for as long as he was able.
Gordon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Scoutmaster, Young Men's President and Bishop's Counselor.
Gordon will be especially remembered for his boundless acts of service including auto and plumbing repairs; farm equipment fabrication; home rewiring (he was a Master Electrician); and playground equipment creation. His Dutch oven potatoes, served for decades at community socials, are legendary.
Survivors include his wife, June; daughter Nancy (Jim) Kimball of Fruitland, UT; son John (Trenna) Gailey of Clifton, ID; son Neil (Lori) Gailey of Long Beach, CA; son Klark (Terri) Gailey of Cove, UT; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren and by a sister-in-law, Elaine Gailey of Clifton. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol; parents; brother, Willard Gailey; sister, Shirley (Voris) Johnson; and grandson, Corey Kimball. The family would like to thank the Franklin County Home Health and Hospice nurses and staff and Dr. Beckstead for their loving care.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 4, at the Clifton Second Ward Chapel with Bishop LaWrell Cook conducting. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho and Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Clifton Cemetery.
