GLEN T. BOWMANAfter a long and courageous battle, Glen Thomas Bowman, "Grandpa Big Bear", 88, passed away August 1, 2008 at a local care center at the age of 88. He was born July 21, 1920 in Cub River, Idaho the son of Priscilla Marshall and Albert Webster Bowman. He was one of eleven children. He was raised and educated in Cub River where he learned the meaning of hard work on the family farm. He married Amy Webster April 15, 1944 in Seattle, Washington. The marriage was solemnized on their wedding anniversary April 15, 1966 in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with three children; Sandy Goodsell, Gary Bowman, and Shirley Bowman. When he was a very small child his father was killed in an automobile accident, leaving his mother with nine young children to raise. He, along with his siblings, had to help their mother work the farm in order to survive. He learned the importance and the value of hard work from a very young age. He took these life lessons and passed them down to his children, multitudes of young nieces, nephews and grandchildren over the years, who came to Cub River, some willingly, some by their parents last frustration to work with Glen for the summer. He was a big man with a powerful booming voice that was more than enough to turn even the toughest rebel into an honorable citizen; at least while in his presence.Glen enlisted into the United States Army in 1942 where he was stationed at Boeing Air Field in Seattle and later at the Tooele Ordinance Depot where he was an M.P. over the German prisoners during WWII. In 1946, he was honorably discharged from the Army. At that time, he returned to Cub River where he purchased one third of the family's farm from his mother. Two brothers purchased the other two thirds. He has owned and operated the farm ever since. During the early years following his leaving the Army, he also worked for the United States Forest Service. For 15 years he worked to establish and repair campgrounds, bridges, roads, restroom facilities and other amenities throughout the Cache National Forest and Franklin Basin. These improvements have now been enjoyed by generations of people who enjoy the great outdoors. Of course this required a lot of extra support and hard work from his own wife and family in order to maintain the Bowman Ranch. Glen is survived by his wife Amy of Cub River; two daughters Sandy Goodsell of Logan, Utah and Shirley Bowman of Cub River; one son Gary (Jeri) Bowman of Cub River. He is also survived by one sister Alene (Burke) Godfrey of Clarkston, Utah; 7 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews . He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and five sisters. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to all the wonderful staff of the Logan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, for their dedication, faithful care and service to not only Glen but to the entire family. The work you do does not go without appreciation.Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at 12 noon in the Mapleton Ward Chapel in Cub River, Idaho, with Bishop Randy Halford conducting. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Military rites and interment will be in the Mapleton Cemetery.
