Frank Barlow Gilbert, 91, passed away on February 2, 2015 at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston, Idaho. He was born March 15, 1923 in Fairview, Idaho the son of Frank James and Matilda Barlow Gilbert. He attended elementary school in Fairview and graduated from Preston High School in 1941. He married Carol Bingham on Dec. 8, 1943 in the Logan Utah Temple.
On April 15, 1945, Barlow was drafted into the Army and sailed to Hawaii on the carrier Bunker Hill during World War II. After his military duties, he worked hard on the family farm with his father to make it a success. He used the G.I. Bill to learn to fly which was his number one hobby and passion.
Carol preceded him in death on Feb. 12, 1994. He married Cherill Hyde on March 13, 1995, in the Salt Lake Temple. He served as a temple worker in the Logan Temple and filled many positions of responsibility in the LDS Church.
He is survived by his wife, Cherill Gilbert of Fairiew; by two daughters and one son, Leslee (Bill) Fisher of Paige, Arizona; Skyler Maury (Kim) Gilbert of Preston, Idaho; Lisa (David) Frame of Ephraim, Utah; by twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren; by two daughters-in-law, Tamara Gilbert of Pocatello, Idaho and Kris Gilbert of Fairview, Idaho; by two step-daughters, Jill (Rick) Rowley of Walnut, California; Mary (Bill) Thorup of West Jordan, Utah; by a step-son, Stephen (Ruth) Johnson of Bountiful, Utah; by many step-grandchildren; by a brother, Bruce (Tamara) Gilbert of Fairview; and by a sister, Faun Herd of Soda Springs, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; by a daughter, Nicolen Gilbert; by two sons, Daniel Bingham Gilbert and James Barlow Gilbert; by a daughter-in-law, Linda Gilbert; by a step-son, David Johnson and by three sisters, Portia, Wilma and Thelma.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fairview First Ward Chapel with Bishop Kip Rawlings conducting. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.
