Weston - Francis LaDell "Blizzard" Haslam, 84, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2010 at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston, Idaho surrounded by his family. LaDell Was born in Wellsville, Utah on June 4, 1926 to Francis and Elva Anderson Haslam. Ladell married the Logan Rodeo Queen, Amarylis Burton on March 1, 1958. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on March 1, 1962. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008.

LaDell was the oldest of six children. His childhood was spent working on the family farm putting up hay, milking cows by hand, and thinning sugar beets. He attended Floridell Elementary and South Cache High School. He then cowboy'ed a few years on the Holt Ranch in Jackson and Silver Star, Montana. He then tried his hand at rodeoing, bull-dogging, bareback riding and bull riding. During this time he started helping Marion McBride with his rodeos after which he helped Parley Hall and John Adam with their rodeos. Dell finally bought the Western Rodeo Company from them. A few years later, he sold the rodeo outfit to Earl Hutchinson and went to work for him which resulted in selling his Wellsville ranch and buying a ranch in Richfield, ID. Dell ranched and was rodeo stock foreman for Earl for five years. He bought Earl's Rodeo Company and in 1968 moved to a ranch in Ovid, Idaho. The Cross-Triangle Rodeo Company was based there for nine years. contracting rodeo stock for PRCA rodeos across the western states. He sold the rodeo stock to Walt Albaugh and moved to Preston. Shortly after moving, he started the Cross-Triangle Rodeo Company up again and produced RMRA and EIRA rodeos. Dell bought a ranch in Bancroft, Idaho where he ranched and rodeo'ed until 1980, when he sold the rodeo stock to Cotton Rosser of California. Then sold for the last time to Swanny Kerby in 1988. He then bought a small ranch in Weston, Idaho.

Dell loved rodeoing. He had some mighty good times and put on some real great rodeos. he bucked off a lot of good cowboys, which was always his goal and gave him a thrill when they came off. he had a big influence in making many good future cowboys. You could always here him telling cowboys, "Just get on him, you ain't gonna ride him anyway."
In his later years hi continued his ranching by selling beef cows. He also drove a lot of miles hauling cattle for many different people in the old Freightliner. His rodeo years were the best of his life. Full of many exciting bull chases and horse roundups. He thought a lot of his family and cherished the many times spent together.

Dell is survived by his wife, Amarylis, of Weston, ID; his children, Laurie (Rodney) Archibald, of Wellsville, UT; Randy (Catherine) Haslam, of Weston, ID; five grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, a brother Jay (Connie) Haslam, of Wellsville, UT; and sisters Elna Hamilton, of Wellsville, UT; and Rula (Stan) Reese, of Tremonton, UT. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Louis Haslam, a sister June Spackman, and a great grandson, Gaige, Haslam.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 17, 2010 at 12:00 noon in the Dayton LDS Chapel, with Bishop Troy Moser conducting. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home's new location, 1005 South 800 East, in Preston, and Friday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church in Dayton.
