PRESTON, IDAHO - EVELYN CHECKETTS
PRESTON- Evelyn Mildred Hansen Checketts, 90, passed away on July 11, 2012 in Preston, Idaho. She was born Aug. 18, 1921, in Weston, Idaho, the daughter of George Victor and Mildred Cooper Hansen. She grew up in Weston and then lived most of her life in Preston. As a teenager, her and her sister used to cook for farm hands to earn money for school. She graduated from Weston High School and attended beauty school. She married Mark L. Checketts on Feb. 27, 1942 in the Logan Temple. She worked as a beautician and instructor for fifty-nine years. She owned and operated her own beauty shops and trained and worked with several beauticians over her career.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as ward organist and pianist for many years. She was known as an excellent cook and candy maker. She provided many excellent meals for her family and friends and did a lot of home canning. She was and is very Christ like and would give her children and others what they needed, even when she had to go without. She was founding member of the "Nifty Needles Club" and enjoyed meeting monthly with her friends. She also loved playing cards with her card group "The Card Sharks"... Ida, Marie and June. She was an avid Utah Jazz fan. She supported her children in everything they did. She enjoyed following her grandchildren in any activities they were involved with as they grew up. Her great grandchildren were a great joy to her.
She is survived by four sons, Rex M. (Trish) Checketts; Darrel (Roselle) Checketts; Nile H. (Barbara) Checketts; Larry C. (Cindy) Checketts all of Preston; ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, a brother, Marco (Wynelle) Hansen of Medford, Oregon; a sister-in-law, Rosalyn Hansen of Salem, Oregon; a brother-in-law, Reese Ransom of Ogden, Utah; a sister-in-law, Billie Eshom of California; a brother-in-law, Vern Weinrich of South Carolina and by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, by a brother, Karl Hansen and by a sister, Winona Hansen Ransom. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. in the Preston South Stake Center, 55 E. 1st S., Preston, Idaho. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, and Saturday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the stake center. Interment will be in the Weston Cemetery.
