Evan Odell Koller

Evan Odell Koller, 84, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2014, at Logan Regional Hospital. He was born in the family home in Weston, Idaho on Oct. 6, 1929 to Anton Samuel Koller and Selma Alta Nielsen Koller. He grew up in Weston and attended high school in Weston until the school burned down. He finished school in Clifton, Idaho the remaining two years. At the age of 17, he started at Utah State Agricultural College in Logan, Utah.

He was called to the Eastern States LDS Mission from 1949-51 serving in Philadelphia, Franklin and Oil City, Pennsylvania. He also served on the Tuscarora and Tonawanda Indian Reservations near Lockport, New York. Evan was drafted in the Army in September of 1953 and was assigned as a Cadre to the 51st Field Artillery Battalion at Fort Ord where he was an instructor until his discharge in January of 1955.
Soon after, he married his sweetheart, Angela Marlene Buttars in the Logan Temple on Dec. 14, 1956.

They set up residence in Weston, Idaho and Evan started purchasing the family farm. They were blessed with six children. One of his greatest joys was having family over and touring the hillsides he farmed. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren the value of hard work. Evan was a well known and respected farmer and he found great joy in working, tilling and growing crops. In 1977, Evan moved from Weston, Idaho to Cornish, Utah to be closer to the farm.

He loved operating equipment and was a skilled heavy equipment operator. He grew up with a love for hunting, which was passed on from his father, Anton. He also loved photography and later in life put up his rifle for a camera. He also loved to fly. He learned to fly a helicopter at the age of 53 and attained both a private license and a commercial pilot license.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by his wife, Marlene; by his siblings, Russell Koller, Lucille Glenn, Violet Dawson, LaVell Koller, Darlene Godfrey, Evelyn Koller and by two grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Daniel (Carolyn) Koller, LuAnn (Niel) Shaffer, Kayleen Sabour, Julie (Andrew) Mylander, Kathy (Othon) Prounis and Mark (Kellie) Koller. Evan enjoyed twenty-one grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Weston First Ward Chapel, 27 N. Center, Weston, Idaho with Bishop Randy Austin conducting. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Weston Cemetery.
