Estelle Lewis Smith

Franta Estelle Lewis Smith, 90, passed away peacefully in Franklin, Idaho on Nov. 2, 2013, from causes incident to age. She was born in Franklin, Idaho to Jedidiah Grant Lewis and Emmanett Nash Lewis on a cold, snowy winter day, December 30, 1922.

From a very young age Estelle's loving parents took her dancing with them. It was on her father's toes that she first learned to love dancing. In school she had lead parts in plays and danced in a traveling assembly team. She also played the violin in the North Cache High School Orchestra. She attended schools in Franklin and Richmond and graduated from North Cache High School in 1940.

It was at a dance held in the Franklin Gym, where she first met and fell in love with Verl W. Smith. Together they tore up the rugs dancing all over the valley for years and years. On Sept. 23, 1941, Verl and Estelle were sealed together in the Logan Temple. After the honeymoon to Salt Lake City, they lived in Fairview, Ogden, Seattle, Cove and finally established their home in Franklin, Idaho. At their home in Franklin, Estelle established a beautiful yard after years of planting, hard work and loving care.

She spent many years as a volunteer for the Pink Ladies where she sang with residents at the nursing home for over twenty years. She has also served on the Franklin County Fair Board, Franklin Pioneer Association and was a long time member of the Ellen Wright Camp D.U.P. Estelle is last of the original members of her club of sweet and wonderful friends that have been meeting twice a month for over 60 years for good food and fun times playing pinochle. Her friends are the best. Verl, Estelle and family enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, snow skiing, water skiing, hunting and especially camping with family and friends.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, but especially loved serving with the youth.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Verl W. Smith; by a granddaughter, Heidi Shay Rogerson; by a great-grandddaughter, Grayce Smith; by her parents; by three brothers, Dallas Grant Lewis, Earl Nash Lewis, LaNay Nash Lewis and by a special sister, Hilda Nash Olsen. She is survived by her children, Lewis W. (Cheryl) Smith of Franklin; Verlene Smith (Charles) Rogerson of Riverdale, Utah; Brad Grant Smith of Franklin; Hal L. (Jeanne) Smith of Franklin; by a special nephew, Dallas Jan (Dinah) Lewis of Wenatchee, Washington; by a special niece, Linda Diane Lewis of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and by 18 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
