Ellen Louise McDaniel Haag, 87, passed away on January 15, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. She was born on May 19, 1926 to Chester Eugene and Josephine Pearl McDaniel in Palestine, Illinois. A Brother, Robert McDaniel joined their family in 1928. Ellen was raised in Palestine during the depression and her father struggled to find work during that time to support them.

She attended elementary and high school in Palestine. She enjoyed sports and played on the girl's basketball team and also played softball for a team sponsored by the Heath Candy Factory. She had the honor of being Palestine's first Drum Majorette in her Junior year after which she graduated in 1944. She attended Asbury College in Wilmette, Kentucky. Her Education was interrupted when she met a dashing young sailor, Leo Paul Seaney, home visiting his cousin Bob. This meeting resulted in marriage following Paul's discharge from the Navy. This union was blessed by an only child, Paula Ann, on December 20th , 1949. Ellen worked in sales in various department stores after getting married and they lived in Robinson, Illinois. This marriage ended in divorce when Paula was 10. At that time Ellen went to work for Marathon Oil Company where she met her second husband and soul mate Edward Haag. They were married and this family combined and all were treated and loved equally as siblings by both parents and the sisters remain close to this day. This marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. Ellen attended cosmetology school and became a licensed beautician and Eddie built her a beauty shop behind the house. She was very successful in this career while Paula was growing up and up till they retired. Ellen enjoyed many callings in the church and she and Eddie were called on a mission for the church and served in the Texas Dallas Mission. They had a successful mission and met many dear friends whom they helped usher into the church and that was a wonderful time for them. Ellen also loved singing with the Sweet Adelines, they traveled and performed in many states and won many awards, some special performances were at the foot of the Statue of Liberty, in Washington D.C., at The Bicentennial Celebration and in Hawaii. She cherished many friendships in that organization. They loved being close to their children and made many memories together with them and their grandchildren. She was a lively and lovely redhead to the end of her days and was a friend to many and the most wonderful wife, mother and grandmother anyone could ask for.
