Eileen V Cleland, Mother, Grandma, Great Grandma passed away peacefully Jan. 18, 2024. Eileen was born June 3,1938, to John W. Mecham and Blanche V Christensen in Orem, Utah. She attended schools in Spanish Fork, Ut. and graduated from Spanish Fork High School.
After graduation, she moved to Provo UT. There she met Richard Cleland at a favorite ice cream parlor P.G. and stopped for hamburger and malt. She always loved banana splits and Aggie Ice Cream cones after that. They were sealed for time and all eternity, in the Salt Lake Temple, on Oct. 13, 1959.
They started their new married life in Rawlins, Wyoming. Dick worked for L.M. Olsen Construction Company. Eileen worked graveyards at Carbon County Memorial, at admission so she didn't have to have her kids go to a babysitter.
Her love for babies started with their first daughter, Monica V Cleland, born September 15,1960, followed by their first son Richard Alan Cleland, born July 17, 1962.The family then moved to Logan, UT. for Richard to finish college. Eileen worked as a dental assistant, for Dr. Vern Eyre.
They welcomed another son, Greg Deon Cleland, April 20, 1969, followed by another daughter, Sheri Lynn Cleland on Nov. 23,1972. Followed yet, by another son Jess Aaron Cleland, Dec.16, 1978. Eileen loved caring for babies, as a foster mom, for 3 more babies. She found great joy in helping them start their lives journey .
She was a professional seamstress, doing costumes for the American West Odyssey, Lola Vee Davis's, La Shari's Dance, drapes,wedding dresses, but her favorite was the baby blessing dresses, with yards and yards of tricot and yards and yards of lace.
Eileen was always active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Where she held many callings, with her favorite work being in the Primary.Many a scouts remember her as a get Cub Leader as well as grandchildren their Grandma's yellow scout shirt. She worked on many Christmas trees, for the Festival of Trees, where the proceeds went to Primary Children's Hospital. The place where her son's, Greg and Jess recieved great help to continue their life's journeys.
Eileen was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She was blessed to be a part of a large, loving family. 7 brothers and 6 sisters, they meant the world to her! Eileen was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cleland, both her parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024, at noon at the North Logan 2nd Ward Chapel, 1105 E. 2100 N., North Logan, Utah. Viewings will be held Sundary from 6-7:30 pm at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 E. Preston, Idaho and again Monday from 10-11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the North Logan Cemetery. The family would like to thank the staff at Autumn Care in Hyde Park for their thoughtful love and care during Eileen’s stay with them. Eileen was loved there for being her and taken good care of. Also, thanks for hospice care given to her, with love and respect for her and us- it was greatly appreciated. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com
