Dorothy Wilding Fenton

Dorothy Wilding Fenton, 92, of Sugar City, Idaho, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2024, while living with a daughter in Preston, Idaho. She was born on May 15, 1932, to Jane Mahalia and Earl Raymond Wilding in Sugar City, Idaho where she grew up. She attended schools in Sugar City and graduated from Sugar Salem High School. 

Born and raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she remained active and faithful throughout her life while serving in several callings. While working at the bank in Idaho Falls, she met and married Robert Junior Fenton. They were married and sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on Nov. 15, 1951. Her home was blessed with nine children.

Dororthy was a very good homemaker and enjoyed sewing, quilting, canning and gardening. She loved to crochet and share her gifts with others. She and Robert served in the Philippines Tacloban Mission from 1992-93. She also served for thirteen years as an officiator in the Idaho Falls Temple. In June of 2007, Robert & Dorothy were asked to go on a Martin’s Cove Trek with the LaBelle 1st Ward. They were pathfinders for the group which meant they were always 100 yards ahead of everyone else- a company of 185 people.

They went on many fishing trips together and enjoyed camping with family and friends. Dorothy even loved to snow-shoe in the mountains with Robert to get their Christmas trees every year.

She is survived by five sons and two daughters, David Lee (Carol) Fenton of St. Anthony, Idaho; Joan Burbank of Cub River, Idaho; Bruce Robert (Janet) Fenton of Cody, Wyoming; Michael Ray Fenton of Preston, Idaho; Kent W. (Chrystal) Fenton of Rigby, Idaho; Jane Marie Zyph of Pasco, Washinton; Vernon Kay (Tyrie) Fenton of Rigby, Idaho; by 32 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; by a brother, Wayne (Beverly) Wilding of Mapleton, Utah and by a sister, Leola Erickson of Rexburg, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; by two daughters, Dorothy Jane Fenton and Karen ReNee Fenton; by two sons-in-law, Bill Zyph and Alan Burbank; and by three brothers and five sisters, Russell Wilding, Reid Wilding, Ellis Ray Wilding, Donna Webster, Laura Patterson, Zola McKenna, Edna Wilding and Shirley Wilding.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Lorenzo Ward Chapel, 258 W. 1st N., Rigby, Idaho. Viewings will be held on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 E., Preston, Idaho and Wednesday from 11:30 a.m-12:30 p.m. at the church in Rigby.
