Dorothy Burbank

Dorothy Burbank

Dorothy Elwood Burbank, 95, passed away on May 5, 2015 at the Franklin County Transitional Care Center in Preston, Idaho.  She was born Nov. 20, 1919, in Lewiston, Utah, to Herbert and Elvira Elwood.  She was the fourth of thirteen children. She attended school in Lewiston and graduated from North Cache High School in Richmond, Utah.  She was a great helper to her mother helping take care of her younger siblings.  She was very close to all of them.

She learned to bake, clean and preserve fruit and produce from her mother and when she had her own family she did an excellent job of this.  She was an expert bread maker and enjoyed eating homemade bread.

She met Alma Gardner Burbank at the Persiana Dance Hall in Preston, Idaho.  They were wed in the Logan Temple on June 21, 1939.  They lived in Preston and Ogden, Utah for a short time before building their home in Cub River.  She lived there for over 70 years.  They raised four sons:  Lyle, Rex, Leon and Boyd.  She was a great housekeeper and mother.  She made several quilts for all her children and grandchildren and some of the great-grandchildren until she was late in her eighties.  She enjoyed bowling on a league for many years.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had many callings including in the Relief Society Presidency.  She did many hours of family history and gave each son a Book of Remembrance.  She had a strong testimony of the gospel.  She was an avid reader and after Alma’s passing in 2008, she read six to eight books per week.  She was easygoing even up to her death and always said “I have nothing to complain about.  I have been very blessed.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alma; by her parents, and all but one sister, Della Taylor of Tremonton, Utah.  She is also survived by four sons, Lyle (Nayda) Burbank of Preston; Rex (Pam) Burbank of Paris, Idaho; Leon (Sharon) Burbank of Preston; Boyd (Cindy) Burbank of Preston; by 15 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren (and 2 on the way).
