Preston, Idaho - - - Dorothea R. Hyde
Preston - Dorothea Ann Rackow Hyde, 89, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2014 just a couple days short of her 90th birthday, at the Franklin County Transitional Care Center in Preston, Idaho. She was born Dorothea Ann Georgianna Rackow on April 20, 1924 to Arthur Emil and Eleanor Marie Ekberg Rackow in Chicago, Illinois. She met Milton E. Hyde in Chicago where he was stationed in the US Navy and they were married on June 14, 1943 in Providence, Rhode Island.
Dorothea worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone Company. She had two daughters, Beverly Jean was born November 20, 1945 and Lynn Ellen was born November 19, 1956. In 1959 she left her beloved Chicago to move to Preston, Idaho with Milton where they operated Hyde's Mink Ranch. Later she enjoyed working at the Franklin County Medical Center and Nursing Home from where she retired. She never quit loving Chicago and often talked of her wonderful childhood and family there. Throughout her life she enjoyed writing beautiful poetry, some of which she submitted to the Saturday Evening Post. She had a passion for music and birds, especially hummingbirds and always had feeders on her porch. She was a compassionate lady with a concern for others.
She is survived by her daughter Lynn Ellen (Kevin) Weiser, of Windsor, CO; son-in-law Richard Haeger, of Pocatello, ID; Granddaughter Jodi Lyn (Joseph) Espindola, and their children Emilee and Antonia, of Pocatello, ID; and a grandson Michael James Haeger and his children Ashley, Michael, and Tyler, also of Pocatello. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Milton, and a daughter Beverly Jean Haeger, and two sisters Dolores Jean Mikolajczyk and June Marie Griffith.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston, Idaho with Bishop Tom Madsen conducting. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. also at Webb Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Lewiston Cemetery.
