Donna Goodwin

Lewiston, Utah- Donna G. Goodwin, 95, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2017 at her home in Lewiston, Utah.  She was born February 22, 1922 in Lewiston the third daughter of Chester L. Glover and Elva Lona Wheeler.  Her first years in school were at the Wheeler School in the old 2nd Ward school building.  She graduated from North Cache High School in 1940.

She married Duane W. Goodwin of Cornish on November 23, 1945 at her parents’ home in Lewiston.  They moved to Williams, Arizona for a short time then back to Logan.  In 1948, they purchased the home and farm in Lewiston where she has since resided.  They had one daughter, Bonnie Kay.

Donna loved gardening.  She had beautiful flowers and abundant garden produce which she shared with family, friends and neighbors.  She spent her time caring for her large garden, thinning and hoeing beets, cooking delicious meals, baking bread, making popcorn balls for Halloween and Christmas, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables, crocheting and embroidering, and taking care of her chickens, cats and farm animals.  She shoveled snow in the winter and mowed her lawn with her riding mower until she was in her 90’s.  Her farm days spanned the time from farming with horses to tractors with modern technology.  She also enjoyed doing research on family history and liked to know what was happening in current events.

Thank you to all the friends and neighbors who have helped her through the years.  She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including Primary and Relief Society secretary.  She served in the library for 17 years.

She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Kay (Paul) Mickelson of Maple Valley, Washington; by a nephew, Terry G. (Edith) Simmonds of Lewiston, Utah and their son, Jordan (Brittney) Simmonds of Lewiston; and by a niece, Linda Hyde.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane W. Goodwin who passed away September 26, 1984; by three sisters, Lona G. Holt (Nov. 29, 2010), Mildred G. Simmonds (Dec. 13, 2005) and Diane G. Stevenson (May 3, 2011).

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Lewiston, Utah Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
