Preston, Idaho - - - - Donald G. Elwell
Donald George Elwell, 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2010, at Terrace Grove Assisted Living in Logan, Utah. He was born on November 19, 1915, in Preston, Idaho, to Isaac and Francis Louisa Carter Elwell. He attended school in Preston and graduated from Preston High School in 1934. He married the love of his life, Robrea "Bobie" Belnap, on October 6, 1935 in Preston. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple on October 28, 1936.
Don lived a life of love, hard work and service and was a friend to everyone who knew him. He was actively involved in several community and service organizations. He held a variety of positions in the Jaycees and Lions Club, including District Governor in 1974. He also served for 14 years on the Preston City Council and was a board member and president of the Association of Idaho Cities. He held many jobs in his life. He worked for Safeway Stores for 10 years, owned a dairy business for 15 years, worked for Cache Valley Dairy for 5 years, worked as a plumber with Lynn Fackrell, owned a wholesale candy business for 12 years, worked for Johnson Drug for 3 years, worked as a caretaker/custodian for Benson Park and Ireland Bank for 17 years and worked with the schools in a placement program for special needs students. Don was a faithful member of the LDS Church where he served in many positions in Sunday School, Mutual, Elders Quorum and High Priest Group.
He is survived by three sons, Donald Max (Teddy) Elwell, Providence, Utah; Emory Wayne (Lois) Elwell, North Ogden, Utah; David George (Sharon) Elwell, Layton, Utah; one daughter, Jean (Michael) McBride, Syracuse, Utah; 16 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and one step-great-great grandchild; one sister, Gwen Elwell Jordan and one sister-in-law, Mary Lin Meek Elwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, a wife and a great grandson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 12 noon at Webb Funeral Home's new location, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho. Friends and family may call Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Preston City Cemetery.
