Fairview, Idaho - - - Dona C. Gilbert
Fairview - Dona Eliza Comish Gilbert, 98, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at the Heritage Home in Preston, Idaho. She was born July 16, 1911 in Cove, Utah to Joseph Nephi and Bertha Orvilla Bowcut Comish. She grew up in Cove with her brothers and sisters: Nephi, Orvilla, Florence, Alden, Henry and Birch, all of who have preceded her in death. She attended USAC in Logan, Utah where she met Merlin Joseph Gilbert and on June 27, 1934 they were married in the Salt Lake Temple.
Dona and Merlin lived on the family farm in Fairview, Idaho where they worked together and raised their family. Together they served a mission in 1978-1979 to Oakland California. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities. She also was an officiator in the Logan Temple for 1979-1993. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family over the years. She always enjoyed gardening, canning, making quilts, and crocheting many articles for her family, and especially spending time wither her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Arlo (Ann Gilbert), of Citrus Heights, CA; Madge (Stephen) Meek, of Riverdale, ID; Max (Connie) Gilbert, of Fairview, ID; 18 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Fairview 1st Ward Chapel with Bishop Howard D. Nelson conducting. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Fairview church and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. also at the church. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery.
