PRESTON, IDAHO - - DON HAMPTON
PRESTON- Don Adrian Hampton, our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died suddenly on Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010. He was born Dec. 15, 1931, in Preston, Idaho, to Adrian Biggs and Athene Nuffer Hampton. He married Jessie Ann Meeks on July 1, 1960. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year.
Don attended school in Preston graduating from high school in 1950. He then attended Idaho State University. He was a veteran of the Korean War, supervising the construction of bridges after receiving the top score in an engineering examination. He then attended Utah State University. He was an aerospace engineer for Boeing and TRW fro 35 years , working on many projects to include the Minute Man Missile, at numerous missile sites throughout the United States. Don was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Don was a lifetime scouter. He helped establish the first Boy Scout troop in Huntsville, Alabama and was a scoutmaster in Alabama, Texas, Utah and Idaho. He received the highest honor in scouting, the Silver Beaver in April of 2009, and was a district scout commissioner at the time of his death. Don had been a member of the Preston City Planning and Zoning Committee for the last year. He was a fervent advocate and organizer of the preservation of the Oneida Stake Academy and was instrumental in the fundraising and eventual moving of the historical building, and was vice-president of the OSA. Don loves sports and fishing, always looking forward to spending time with his friends. He was the owner and operator of Hampton Orchards, carrying on the family tradition of providing fruit and cider to the community. Don was the owner and developer of Orchard Estates Subdivision.
Don is survived by his wife, Jessie; children, Adrienne (Kellen) Alvey, Mary Lyn Hampton, Louis(Jeri) Hampton, all of Preston, and Tom (Debbie) Lower of Portland, Oregon; grandchildren, Brady and Kelli Ann, Kyle, Austin, Bailey and Madison, Josh, Danielle, and Dusty Rae; great-grandchildren, Shaylee and Kimberlee, a sister, Diana (David) McClun of Walnut Creek, California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at noon in the Preston First Ward Chapel, 213 S. 2nd E., Preston, with Bishop Brent Dodge conducting. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home's new facility, 1005 South 8th East, Preston, and Monday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Military Rites and condolences will be in the Franklin Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oneida Stake Academy at oneidastakeacademy.com.
