Don Keller Gundersen, 78, passed away on October 19, 2014 at his home in Ivins, Utah surrounded by family, after a short battle with melanoma. He was born to Arthur Leonard and Vivian Keller Gundersen on April 18, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Don was very athletic. He was an all-state in football, all-star baseball and state champion wrestler. He graduated from Olympus High and continued playing football for the University of Utah. He served faithfully for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was an avid runner and always up for an adventure. He met his sweetheart Shirley J. Christensen while attending Preston High School in 1953. They were married on September 17, 1955, and were later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They raised seven children, all of whom were his “favorite.”
Don is survived by his wife, Shirley, his children, Barton and Karla Gundersen, Carrie and Darren Horsely, Laura and Larry Chatterton, Linda and Rob McNew, Sandra and Gregg Sharp, Phillip and Liz Gundersen, Jenni and Ryan Cain. Don and Shirley have 21 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren including many more family and friends whom he dearly loves. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers; Ada Nordquist, Lavern Cardell, Max Gundersen, Arthur Gundersen.He was preceded in death by his parents and grandchildren; Joshua Cain and Bryn Gundersen.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 24th 2014 at 12:00 noon in the Preston South Stake Center at 55 East 100 South in Preston, Idaho with Bishop Paul Smart conducting. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Webb funeral home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston and Friday from 10:30 to 11:30 at the South Stake Center. Interment will be at the Mink Creek, Idaho Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
