Dolores Varela Allred

Dolores Varela Allred (81) of Preston, Idaho, returned unexpectedly to her Father in Heaven after a short illness Saturday, March 31st, 2012. Mother, devoted wife, caring grandmother, teacher, friend, she will be sorely and profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her. She lived a beautiful and meaningful life. Born to Jose (Joe) and Amy Larson Varela on June 17, 1931, in Oakley, Idaho, Dolores was a beacon of love and peace here on earth. She lived in Burley, Idaho, for most of her early life where she met and fell in love with Byron Harvey Allred and together they attended Brigham Young University where she earned her Bachelor's degree in English. She also attended the University of Mexico City. She married Byron on August 29, 1952, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple and was a devoted and loving wife for nearly 60 years. Dolores brought five sons into the world while traveling extensively as an Air Force wife to Spain, Turkey, California, Nebraska, Maine and Texas. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many positions including Relief Society President. In her later years after moving to Preston Idaho, she was instrumental in extracting and indexing a vast library of genealogical records, many of which were several hundred years old. Dolores loved the Lord and was His faithful servant, spending many hours in the temples of the Lord doing work for her loved ones who had passed before her. After teaching for 22 years in the Cassia County school system, she and Byron served an LDS educational mission to Guatemala using their fluent Spanish language skills to improve the lives of many young people there.

Dolores blessed the lives of her family in countless permanent and meaningful ways. She was a talented cook, seamstress, artist, singer, writer, pen pal, a trusted confidant and world traveller. She loved deeply, listened patiently, worshipped humbly and lived gracefully. When age and poor health slowed her down, she stayed in touch with her extensive family and friends via email. Her computer became an indispensable ally in her successful quest to touch the lives of her family and friends. Dolores is survived by her husband Byron, her sons, Mark (Kathleen) in Korea, Jon, Salt Lake City, Eric (Sandy) of Preston, Idaho, Paul (Ann) of Kaysville, Utah, and Phillip (Jennifer) of Rigby, Idaho; and dozens of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her father Joe, her mother Amy, and older brother Joe Raymond. We are all comforted in the sure knowledge that she is in the arms of loved ones and her Savior, and that we will be with her again in the eternities. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. the Preston 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 213 S. 200 E. Preston, with Bishop Brent Dodge presiding. Friends may call Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home 1005 S. 800 E. Preston, and Saturday from 9:00-9:45 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, 1645 E. 16th Street Burley, Idaho, immediately followed by a light luncheon for family and friends with reminiscing about Dolores at the Burley 11th Ward LDS chapel, 2400 Parke Avenue.
