PRESTON- Devon William Warrick passed away at the age of 93, just one month short of his 94th birthday. He was born Feb. 23, 1919, in Preston, Idaho, the son of John Ephriam and Nathalie Anne Carlson Warrick.
He married Gwen Lowe on March 2, 1939, in the Logan Temple. They had two small girls when he went to war. He was extremely proud that he had been able to serve in World War II. So proud, in fact, that when he wrote the history of his life story he ended it in 1945. When asked why he ended it in 1945, he said, "Because that is when the war ended."
Devon and Gwen raised their six children in Bountiful, Utah, in a home they had built. Then he built an A Frame cabin in Preston of which he could not be pried away from. He said, "I'll never make it to the Celestial Kingdom... this place is the closest I am going to get." He took care of Gwen for 7 A½ years after she had a stroke before she passed away in 1996.
He drove Greyhound Bus for thirty years over a million miles without an accident. He was always willing to help anyone with his 10 wheel truck and backhoe tractor.
He is survived by four daughters and two sons, Konadee (Don) Thomas of Bountiful, Utah; LuAnne (Bill) Dixon of Denver, Colorado; Merikay (Rick) Haskins of West Bountiful, Utah; Curtis (Shawna) Warrick of Ogden, Utah; Sally (Gary) Holbrook of Centerville, Utah; Neil (Lorene) Warrick of Indiana; twenty grandchildren, and forty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwen; by his parents; by a brother, Elvin Warrick; by three sisters, Dorris Nathalie Warrick, Gwen Ruth Warrick and Virginia Rose Warrick; by a brother-in-law, Don Thomas and by a grandson, Kevin Warrick Thomas.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in the Winder LDS Church with Bishop Alan Atkinson conducting. Friends may call Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Tamra Austin, Cheri Rindlisbacher and Kurtis Nelson for their care in the last three months allowing him to stay in his home.
