Della Rawlings Jones

PRESTON, IDAHO DELLA JONES

Preston, Idaho - Della Rawlings Jones, 90, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the home of her daughter, Phyllis, in Sandy, Utah of natural causes. She was born on September 5, 1921 in Preston, Idaho, to James Richard and Florence Isabell Rawlings. She married Lorenzo (Ren) Jones on February 10, 1942 in Preston, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah temple. He preceded her in death.

She was a loving mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great-Great Grandmother. She loved all the beauties around her, but she especially loved her family. She was always happy, making fun of her own jokes and keeping all of us laughing.

Della was always active in the LDS Church, being the President of all organizations within her ward as well as teacher and other positions. She taught her family good values including how to work. She was the example.

She had a love for quilting, a lot of times doing a big quilt and a baby quilt in a week. She said she did the baby quilt and binding while she rested. These quilts are all over the United States.

Della was raised on the sand hills south of Preston where her father had a farm and milk cows. Mother's main duty was to milk the cows. Because of this she had really strong arms and hands. She did this thing with gripping a broom handle and seeing who could grip the other person down. She was the champion till the day she died.

Della was a wonderful cook, especially bread. She baked rolls for most of the funerals along with the ward parties and neighbors who she thought had the need. Service played a big part in her life.

She was able to stay in her own home taking care of herself until November of 2011 when she went to Sandy to live with her daughter, Phyllis, and son-in-law Lee. She would often say that living there was like being in Heaven and she wanted to live there until she died. She did just that, passing away in Phyllis and Lee's arms. The family can't thank them both enough for the sevrice they have done for mom and the family.

Della is survived by all 8 of her children, Steven Lorenzo (Patsy), of Pingree, Idaho, Kathleen (Gerald) Cole, of Preston, Idaho, Elaine (LaVere) Martin, of Sunset, Utah, Phyllis (Lee) Vincent, of Sandy, Utah, Eva (Max) Gyllenskog, of Smithfield, Utah, Betty Lou (Rex) Woodward, of Franklin, Idaho, Marie (Scott) Leatham, of Brigham City, Utah, and Michael R. (Velma) of Keizer, Oregon. 37 Grand Children, 105 Great Grandchildren and 10 Great-Great Grandchildren. She was preceeded in death by her parents and all her siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 6, 2012, at noon in the Preston Third Ward Chapel, 155 N. 200 W., Preston, Idaho, with Bishop Leonard Ward conducting. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho and Monday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
