Dee Dockstader

Urias Dee Dockstader was born September 12, 1932 to Urias “Curly” Dockstader and Neta Bench Dockstader. He passed away on February 28, 2019 at the age of 86.

Dee grew up in Preston and spent most of his life there. He loved to read, golf, travel, and spend time with family. He has many fond memories of summers in the Mink Creek area riding horses and spending time with family, fishing with his dad, brothers, and uncles up Cottonwood, and swimming in the river bottoms with his friends. He loved the trips and outdoor adventures with his children and their families. He attended school in Preston where he loved to play basketball whenever he could.

Dee enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 and served in the 526 Marine Maintenance Company. His service took him to Ford Ord, California for basic training and Fort Eustis, Virginia for more training, and finally to France where he was a driver for one of the generals stationed there. He was honorably discharged on March 5, 1953.

He married Gloria Spackman on October 23, 1953. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple on May 18, 1962. They had five children: Rick (Maxine) Dockstader, Teresa (Ivan) Elmer, Rochelle (Dell) Simper, Kim Dockstader, and Mindy (Brad) Daley. They were blessed with 14 grandchildren (6 girls and 8 boys) and 19 great-grandchildren (4 girls and 15 boys). He was devoted to his family and loved them very much.

Dee worked in the cement and construction business most of his life. He worked in Pocatello and Wyoming building roads and had his own construction business where he built many homes, dairies, and even a bank. He shut down his construction business and sold off most of the equipment and concrete forms and went to work for Presto Products. He worked there for about 15 years in the capital construction crew where his skills proved to be of great value. This is where he retired.

He enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants and raised and trained several hunting dogs. He also loved the Utah Jazz and Denver Broncos. He was a faithful fan whether they were winning or losing.

Dee loved to play golf and was a member of the Preston Golf and Country Club. He played in the weekly league with his wife, went on trips with his golfing buddies to various golf courses in the West, and was a marshal at the 1992 U.S. Open in Pebble Beach, California.

He had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. Some of the places his visited include Hawaii, Florida, Virginia, Niagara Falls, Washington, D.C., California, a family trip to Alaska, and the Grand Caymans, Roatán Honduras, Belize, and Cozumel.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings including many years in scouting. He served in the Logan Utah Temple for five years. He loved this calling and received many wonderful blessings from his service.

He is survived by his five children and their spouses, 14 grand-children, 19 great grand-children, one brother (Bruce), two sisters (Corrine and Connie). He was preceded in death by his wife Gloria, his parents, and a brother (Leon).

Dee’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Tiffany Dockstader for her loving care of our father for almost 4 years which allowed him to continue living in his home, our brother Kim for going above and beyond by always being there for Dad, the staff and care givers at Heritage Senior Living center for their kindness and great care, and Signature Access Home Health for their tender care in Dad’s last days.
