Deanna Clarice Hoggan Belt, 74, of Ridgecrest, California graduated from this life to join her mother and others awaiting with open arms on September 4, 2013 following a stroke. She was born on May 18, 1939 in Los Angeles and grew up in Bell Gardens with her mother, Whilma Unck Hoggan. When her mother remarried, they moved to Perris, California where Deanna graduated from Perris Union High School as valedictorian in 1957.
Deanna met her future husband, David Herbert Belt, on her graduation day. David was there to see his brother, Deanna's good friend, graduate. Deanna tripped and fell into David's arms. They were set up on a date by David's brother and continued dating. They were married on June 28, 1958.
Deanna and David had three children, David, Dawn, and Daniel. They lived in Redondo Beach, then Santa Ana, and then spent most of their married life in Perris from 1969 to 2006. In 1968 the family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and they were sealed in the Los Angeles Temple in 1971. She served in many callings in the church including Young Women's President, genealogy extraction worker, librarian, and visiting teaching supervisor.
Deanna worked for almost 30 years at Elsinore Union High School as a career center technician where she enjoyed working with the students and helping them with their future plans. She continued to work even after she was confined to a wheelchair and the career center was named in her honor. Along with her husband, she helped start the first band boosters organization in Elsinore and would make homemade chili for home football games along with many other fundraisers.
In 2006, after retiring, David and Deanna moved to Ridgecrest, California which was a great blessing to the family members living there. She was fun to visit with and a person you could turn to for advice and encouragement. She was cheerful in spite of her health problems. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and we will miss her. The family is especially appreciative of G'pa for the loving care he gave to G'ma as she spent the last 20 years of her life in a wheelchair due to rheumatoid arthritis.
Deanna is survived by her devoted husband, David Herbert Belt, of Ridgecrest, California; son, David Harald Belt and wife, Penny of Ridgecrest; daughter, Dawn Clarice Taylor and husband, Howard of Dayton, Idaho; son, Daniel Morgan Belt and wife, Pamela of Annapolis, Maryland; grandchildren, Danelle Willes, Sylvia Luehr, David Reed Belt, Samuel Belt, Katie Willes, Adam Kinsley, Dallin Belt, Karen Maughan, and Deanna Belt (who was named after her grandmother), and also her step grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at the Dayton Idaho Cemetery on Friday, September 13, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
