Daniel George Magill Sr

Daniel George Magill, 71, passed away on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Franklin County Transitional Care Center in Preston, Idaho.  He was born on October 18, 1943 in Dayton, Ohio to Harold Robert and Madeline Hannah Rich Magill.  Dan was born outside of Dayton, Ohio and grew up on a farm. He supposedly captured and raised a red fox as a pet in High School. He was employed by Chrysler when he married Victoria Lynn Gayman in January of 1969. The couple traveled to Utah, staying with Dan's maternal grandparents near Salt Lake before gaining a temple marriage in Logan, Utah. Dan and Vicki owned a home at 4108 E 4th St in Dayton, OH and later purchased a small farm in West Alexandria, OH. They had an appaloosa horse name Kawanas and her colt Easy Money. Their first child (Michael Shane Magill) was born while Vicki was enrolled in nursing school at Good Samaritan Hospital, October 22, 1969. Their second child (Gary Allen Magill) was born April 5, 1971 and their third, final, child (Daniel George Magill Jr now known as Devin Michael Foster) was born January 7, 1975. Dan and Vicki legally separated in 1975 and were divorced in 1976. Dan left his job at Chrysler shortly after the divorce.

Dan took his 3 sons on a vacation to Florida in 1977 with family friend Faith Trangenstein. During this trip Dan took the boys out onto the ocean in a small lake boat. Faith reported them missing to the US Coast Guard who was able to locate and rescue them, towing the boat to shore the following day.

Dan left Ohio after 1977 and eventually relocated to Melbourne, FL. He sent 2 plane tickets (and some shark jaws) to Ohio in 1982 for Michael (Shane) and Gary to come live with him. Vicki purchased a third ticket for Danny, so that the brothers would not be separated. Dan was a member of the Melbourne ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and acted as assistant Boy Scout Troop Leader for the church. One member of the congregation owned a construction company and employed Dan as a independent contractor where he specialized in roofing.  Dan was also employed as an independent contractor at a local greenhouse nursery (general handyman/carpenter.) Dan regularly took the boys fishing in a canoe on the St John's River for alligator gar, and Sebastian Inlet to fish for Bluefish from the causeway, and cast fishing for mullet off Cape Canaveral. The boys spent their school years in Florida and their summers in Ohio until 1986 when they permanently returned to Ohio.

Dan later attended the graduation of Michael (Shane) in 1988 and the Wedding of Gary in 1992. He returned to Dayton, OH in 1996 for a brief period of time, working at a local waste management plant. Daniel loved the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and stayed faithful to the Church. He especially loved the misionary work.  He was an accomplished roofer and talented gardener. He was generous to give away apples and other produce from his garden to neighbors, ward members and friends. He would go around Preston cleaning and picking up garbage. He always wanted to stay busy.

Daniel is survived by his three sons Michael Shane Magill, Gary Allen Magill, and Devin Michael Foster aka Daniel George Magill Jr 41and 2 grandchildren Xander Allen Magill and Maya Evelyn Magill.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
