DAL VON "MICK" ATKINSON
- PRESTON - Dal Von "Mick" Atkinson, 74, passed away Monday, December 28, 2009, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
- He was born Nov. 6, 1935, in Treasureton, Idaho, the second child of Von and Vera Atkinson. He attended elementary school in Treasureton and high school in Preston. He also attended Steven's Henager and Weber State College, where he majored in electronics and business management. He joined the U.S. Air Force when he was 18. He left the Air Force four years later as a staff sergeant. One year later he went to work at Hill Air Force Base, where he worked until he retired in 1986. He bought the family ranch in 1973, where he ranched for 21 years, until he sold it in 1994 and moved to Riverdale, Idaho.
- He married Lois Jorgensen on Aug. 14, 1953. They had six children and were later divorced. He married Vicki Pearson LiCalzi on May 28, 1976, and adopted her three children. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.
- He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Bishop of the Riverdale Ward. He also believed in civic duty and served for four years as Franklin County Commissioner. He loved working with cattle and horses, red trucks, his wife and children, his grandchildren, working, building fences and raisin pie.
- He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Garth and Keith; two sons, Daniel and Burke; and two grandsons.
- He is survived by his wife, Vicki; seven children, LuAnn Johnson, Ogden, Utah; Christy (Allan) Byzewski, Grand Forks, N.D.; Kathy O'Leary, Hermiston, Ore.; Michael (Jonette) Atkinson, Hermiston, Ore.; Mark (Melissa) Atkinson, Green River, Wyo.; Jodi (Erik) Shaffer, Gilbert, Ariz.; and Ryan (Vicki) Atkinson, Preston, Idaho; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Joyce (Kay) Wanner, West Point, Utah, and Lila (Roland) Hull, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho; two brothers, Larry (Jackie) Atkinson, Pocatello, Idaho; and Kevin Atkinson, Franklin, Idaho.
- Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at noon in the Riverdale LDS Ward Chapel located at 3562 North 1800 East Preston, Idaho 83623, with Bishop John Higley conducting. Friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 East Oneida, Preston, and Saturday from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Franklin, Idaho Cemetery.
