With deep sorrow but hearts filled with gratitude, we announce the peaceful passing of Connie Patton Welsh on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the age of 85. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Hugh, in heaven, a reunion she longed for and which brings comfort to those left behind.
Connie was known for her resilient spirit, overcoming challenges with grace throughout her life. As a child, she contracted polio, but she never let it define her. Instead, she became a beacon of strength, inspiring all who knew her with her determination and unbreakable will.
Connie graduated from Lamar High School in Houston, TX and received her Bachelor Degree from the University of Texas. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She taught English and History at Robert E. Lee High School with her great friend, Lou Gorski. Connie and Lou had a special, lifelong friendship, and we are so grateful they got to spend some time together just one week before Connie’s passing. Connie was a world traveler in her 20s. If you mentioned a country to Connie, chances are she had been there. She met the love of her life, Hugh, on a blind date, and they married just one year later in 1971.
What everyone will cherish most about Connie is her unforgettable laugh—a loud, infectious sound that could fill any room with warmth and joy. It was a reflection of her love for life and her generous spirit. Connie loved sharing her faith by leading Bible studies in every community she lived in. Her warm, welcoming nature drew others in as they explored their faith together. She also found great joy in singing with church choirs, using her voice to praise God and uplift those around her. Connie loved all things Coca-Cola and hated pizza. She also hated cold weather but agreed to move to Utah to be closer to her son, Adrian, seven years ago.
Connie is preceded in death by her parents Adrian Ivan Patton, Jr. and Charlotte Maer Patton, sister Kay Patton Jones, brother Adrian Ivan Patton, III, her husband Hugh Clayton Welsh, Jr., son Hugh Clayton Welsh III, and daughter Edina Welsh Sauer. Connie is survived by sons Tim Welsh and Adrian (Lisa) Welsh and son-in-law Pat Sauer. She relished her role as GranConnie and MeeMaw to Patrick, Timothy, Hogan, and Kemp Sauer, Abigail Welsh, and Olsen and Jovie Welsh. She also leaves behind a multitude of loved nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Maple Springs who provided her with compassionate care. She considered them her friends and received many invitations to weddings and graduations in her seven years living at Maple Springs.
A memorial to celebrate her life will be held at a later date in Pearland, TX, where she spent many happy years with her husband. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com
