Fairview, Idaho - - - Connie M. Rawlings
Fairview - Connie Monson Rawlings, 90, died peacefully Tuesday, February 12, 2013 of natural causes at her daughter's home in Fairview, Idaho. She was born on November 26, 1922 to Alma Hyrum and Margaret Ena Peterson Monson in their family home in Preston, Idaho. Her great grandfather was Christian Hans Monson, one of the first converts of the LDS church to emigrate from Norway.
She attended Preston schools, graduating from Preston High School in 1940. She played the clarinet in the band and enjoyed other school activities. She loved attending dances at the Persiana in Preston. She also worked at Merrill's Confectionary. She married Martell Gilbert Rawlings on October 11, 1940. They were sealed in the Logan Temple and shared 71 years of marriage. Connie was a devoted companion to Martell and a beloved mother to 11 children. Two foster daughters, Bernice and Amelia, came into their home through the Indian Placement Program.
Connie served in many LDS church positions in the Fairview ward, including seven years as Young Women's president. She enjoyed being the chorister in many auxiliaries in her ward and served as the Franklin Stake Music director. One special event in her life was singing with the Singing Mothers at an LDS conference in the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. As an active Daughter of the Utah Pioneers, she served as Captain of the Sara Mar Camp and as County Captain. Connie and Martell served an LDS Fiji, Suva Mission in the Republic of Karibati in the Gilbert Islands in 1987-1988. They also served together as Logan Temple officiators for over 11 years.
Connie enjoyed making beautiful quilts and crocheted into her 89th year. She was a wonderful homemaker and taught her children through example, the value of work by gardening, sewing, baking, canning and helping on the farm. She loved music and gave her children opportunities to develop their talents in music, theatre, playing instruments and singing. Traveling with Martell was a special highlight of her life. They visited family throughout the world including Florida, Hawaii, Germany, and Taiwan. She enjoyed entertaining and having her family come to visit. She loved watching her posterity grow, welcoming each new grandchild with great joy.
She is survived by 10 of 11 children: Gary (Deborah) Rawlings, of Idaho Falls, ID; Louise (Robert) Sorenson, of St George, UT; Craig (Kai) Rawlings, Tallin, Estonia; Laraine (LaMont) Harris, of Preston; MarJean Pitcher, of Ivins, UT; RaNae (Michael) Blair of Sterling, UT; Kieth (Marianne) Rawlings, of Heber City, UT; Karla (Barton) Gunderson, of Fairview, ID; Kevin (Bonnie) Rawlings, of Centerville, UT; Kirt (Crista) Rawlings, of Shingle Springs, CA; and a son-in-law Larry Hone, of Sacramento, CA. She is also survived by 49 of 52 grandchildren, 110 great grandchildren and 24 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Barbara Rinderknecht, of Providence, UT and Cleone (Harold) Jones, of Rexburg, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Martell, a daughter Sharen Hone; stillborn twin daughters; three brothers Dale, Rheal, and Garth; four sisters Norman Murray, Mada Larsen, Louise Hendricks, and Deane Edwards; three grandchildren Chad Rawlings, Sean Harris, RaChelle Blair Akagi, and daughter-in-law Deanne Rawlings.
The family would like to thank Dr. Michael Stones, and the nurses and aids from Franklin County Home Health and Hospice for their kind care of Connie. A special thank you is also expressed to those within the family who gave her loving care and kept her comfortable.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fairview second Ward Chapel, 165 West 4800 South in Preston with Bishop Lewis Palmer conducting. A viewing will be held on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston and Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church in Fairview.
