"Gone Fishin'"
CEDAR CITY- Clair J. Stocks, 78, former Lewiston, Utah resident, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, while on a fishing trip to Henry's Lake in Island Park doing what he loved so much. He was born Sept. 28, 1931, in Smithfield, Utah, the son of James Hendricks and Mattie Lenore Gyllenskog Stocks.
He graduated from North Cache High School in 1949 and then served his country in the Army National Guard 204th Field Battalion Service Battery during the Korean War. He married Eloise Boman on August 11, 1950 in the Logan Utah Temple.
He worked for 11 years in Mackay, Idaho for his father who owned Frank's Steak House. He then was a Sales Rep for Continental Oil Co. and later owned and operated Stocks Tire and Oil Co. in Cedar City, Utah for many years. He enjoyed sports and fishing and hunting with his buddies. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served in the Cub Scouts and as a home teacher. He and his wife spent several winters in Overton, Nevada on Lake Mead. He loved his family very much.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise, of Cedar City; three sons and three daughters, Jay Clair (Cheryl) Stocks of Vernal, Utah; Jan (Deon) Kelsey of Richfield, Utah; Craig (Clarica) Stocks of Cedar City; Ray (Allison) Stocks of Cedar City; Tracie (Wayne) Urie of Ferrin, Utah; Sue (Lewis) Barney of Hatch, Utah; 27 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and by a sister, Ann (Vern) Johnson of Lost River, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandsons and one great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. in the Cedar City 9th Ward Chapel, 300 S. 900W., Cedar City, Utah, with Bishop Tom Bryson conducting. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the church and Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. also at the church. Military rites and interment will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at 12 Noon in the Lewiston, Utah Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
